Child Protection in Emergency Officer at Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre (GEPaDC)

Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre (GEPaDC) is a Non-governmental, non-partisan, non-religious and not-for-profit organization whose goal is the "promotion of gender equality, Peace and sustainable development in Nigeria". Our Thematic areas include but not limited to: Gender, Women's Empowerment and Leadership Development; Violence against women; Peace education/conflict management/non violent peace initiative; Women's Rights; Democracy & Good Governance; HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health; Environment & Sustainable Development; Youth Development; Child Protection in Emergencies; Education in Emergencies.GEPaDC Borno State Office is one of the leading CSOs implementing the humanitarian response to IDPs especially in the areas of Protection, Education in emergencies, livelihood support, women empowerment, good governance, gender equality inclusion among others. As part of GEPaDC's responsibility to meet the set goal of the project ECHO 4 in partnership with save the children International, the organization is seeking for a qualified hand to handle the vacant position below:Job Type Contract/Duration 2 Month with possibility of extension Reporting to: Project CoordinatorPurpose: This position is responsible for assessment, response analysis, design and implementation of the child protection components of the ECHO 4 project. S/he will need to co-ordinate with other Emergency response team members and SC staff, especially Implementation Management, health, education and other relevant technical sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response. S/he will need to ensure response to immediate child protection issues with simultaneous consideration of longer term needs and possible scenarios in the camps. Depending on the situation, the specialist may need to take a very active role in technical co-ordination, support, and advocacy with the country specific child protection Clusters and other stakeholders and technical agencies relevant to the sector. They will be working 100% on the project.Job Responsibilities:Experience2 - 3 years Duties Facilitate all trainings and train Outreach Facilitators and Animators Collate and compile all work plans and share with SCI weekly. Conduct referral and protection mapping (any other assessments) Lead the formation and initial training of Child Protection Committees (CPCs). Ensure CPC meetings and activities hold monthly Ensure all documentation, reports, and records are maintained per agreed procedure, and information is provided on community activities as required. Facilitate mentoring and coaching of CPCs on various topics, as outlined in the implementation plan. Compile all CRM reports and share with SCI weekly Provide mentoring and coaching to CPC Volunteers and Animators on the use of complaints and response mechanism Maintain documentation and M&E systems at the community/state office level: under the guidance of M&E Officer, work with the CPC volunteers to ensure that all documents for children and families are kept up-to-date, accurate, and secure; and ensure that information is compiled as needed in an accurate and timely basis to assess progress against activities and outcomes for each community. Work with SCI Field Manager to ensure that all financial activities conducted in camps are properly documented in line with ECHO 4 procedures and with SC policies. Ensure all cases are referred to identified stakeholders Co-Lead with the Sate Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development through the SEMA and NEMA, the CP Sub Cluster and any other CP coordination meetings as requested. Coordinate with the sub CP clusters in order to assure that adequate and children centered educational solutions are taken in consideration in the strategic planning of activities Supervise the Animators during CFS activities ensuring activities are implemented in an appropriate manner Ensure humanitarian safeguarding matrix standards are understood and met Ensure parents and caregivers are informed during CPC meetings on progress of children attending CFS Conduct weekly visits to CFS locations to ensure it is kept clean. Ensure Facilitators conduct inventory daily after CFS activities end. Finalize CFS time table with using the CFS SCI guidelines handbook Lead on informing parents, SCI office about security situations. Report general protection issues present in the camps to SCI Protection Advisor Participate in the CP assessment and analysis process in coordination with the CP team, support regular participatory activities with different groups of children to identify issues affecting children in camps and assists team to develop appropriate responses. Must adhere to the child safeguarding and protection policies and reporting standards. Write and submit weekly activity reports. Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Line Manager. Essential Criteria University degree or equivalent in Social work, social science, Development studies or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience Between two to three years of work experience in Protection work, Supervision, Community mobilization and Distributions and solid understanding of the actual Nigeria Emergency context. Proven ability to supervise a CP project with holistic approach and integrated to child protection right Speaking fluent English, Hausa and Kanuri Computer literate (Microsoft word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook Desirable Criteria High level of personal integrity, commitment and professional responsibility Excellent communication skills Team player with strong leadership skills Mature personality with life experience is an advantage Able to be a self-started and work challenging contexts and fragile environment.
